Last summer LoobaLee was launched!  It’s an online service to help parents buy and sell gently used children’s clothing.  And, they’ve been growing like crazy ever since.

They carry upscale, name-brand, and boutique-quality children’s wear and accessories and now have over 1000 brands available through their site.

LoobaLee’s owner – Suzanne Rielle – claims that with her company and some smart buying and selling practices, you can clothe your child for pennies.  This “Virtually Free” philosophy is based on three principles: Buy right, care right, sell right.

In other words, if you buy high-quality, durable clothing and launder and care for it properly, you can re-sell it for nearly enough to cover your original cost.  In a recession, the idea of spending on quality, rather than price, for your kid’s clothes seems counter-intuitive.  But, the reality is, only the higher-quality clothes hold their value.

As a shopper, you can easily search LoobaLee.com by gender, size, and item type.  But the thing I really like is the level of detail available for each of the products – more than you’d find on most retail sites, and certainly more than you would learn if you went to other consignment-type shop unless a seller volunteers the information.  For every product, you can see the following information:

• Brand (and they have many available)
• Collection
• Size (don’t forget to check SizeTracker to make sure you get the right size)
• Condition – LoobaLee allows sellers to choose from several categories to let you know what to expect in terms of wear and tear, if anything.

As a seller, this site’s a peach. There are a number of companies that allow you to trade, rent, or auction off the clothing that your children have outgrown, but LoobaLee seems to give sellers more control over pricing, presentation, and shipping.  LoobaLee also offers a flat-rate monthly listing fee, marketing tools, and selling support – such as Suzanne’s 7 Secrets to Selling Success and the live and recorded training offered on the site – to help you sell effectively.

This is a great one-stop-shop for buying kids’ back-to-school, special occasion, and every-day wear clothes and/or reselling it when it’s outgrown its usefulness, so to speak.
